Takbo para sa Pagbabago Video

Thanks to a member of the Green Team for posting this... :-) Like I said before, I loved the atmosphere during the event. Manalo, matalo ( siyempre, mas maganda, manalo ;-) , we're all in this together and we were doing it more for ourselves.

I Got A Feeling...

I have developed the habit of playing that song first thing in the morning... :-) It revs up my spirit.

And last night was indeed a good night. (most of the day, actually .. I just have to let go of the fact that my boss asked me to come to the office.. grr. I am now just expected to go to work during Thursdays and Fridays)

Good mood :-) Met with two friends yesterday.

Jerick, one of my good friends back in high school, just came back from Saudi Arabia after 10 years (!!!!) of working there. I chanced upon him on Facebook and was so surprised that he was here already. We weren't exactly from 1 barkada, but were in several school activities together - our Australia trip, 2 school plays, and I also remember sharing a "limo" (ok, a van!) to the senior prom! (his date was Jecca, Sam's now-mistah!) We talked about life abroad, friends, family, and the Philippines. He was such a foreigner! I can't wait to meet his wife and kid.

After coffee with Jerick at McCafe (where we were also privileged to see Mr George Yang, the McDonalds magnate) , I took the bus to Megamall. Oh yes, I did. The last time I was at Megamall was when it was still under construction.

At Mega, I met another good friend, this time a blocmate from college. Henry is now working as a store supervisor at Marks and Spencer. He took the job because he wants to study the retail industry so he'll know how to run his own business someday. I so admire his spunk and determination. I think he just needs a little encouragement to keep him on track (sometimes we're really just caught in that paycheck cycle, hehe)

We had a super great time catching up! Next time other old Human Eco guys should join us to keep us from gossiping about them, hehe.

I am loving one of my so-called jobs that's getting me out of my comfort zone, encouraging me to meet with old friends, and equipping me with tools that can potentially help people with their needs. ;-)

Manifesto for Positive Campaigning

We, the supporters, volunteers and friends of former Defense Secretary Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro, vow to uphold the principles of POSITIVE CAMPAIGNING this election season. These principles shall unite us and guide us through this adventure that has brought us all together, inspire us throughout this journey, and lead us to victory.

We recognize, we believe, we affirm:

- that we have chosen our CANDIDATE because he represents what is best and excellent in all of us, because he champions our greatness rather than our mediocrity, because he is a visionary of means and not just a dreamer of ends, because we recognize the potential in him just as we recognize the potential in ourselves;

- that our VOTE is sacred. We do not take our vote for granted, for we are aware that millions around the world do not enjoy the privilege of electing their own leaders, and therefore do not have a say in mapping out their own destiny. Our vote ennobles us, reminds us that we can choose, we can decide and we can exercise our freedom to evolve our democracy to greater heights, as we give our full support to leaders who can serve the highest ideals of democracy;

- that this is a CAMPAIGN that does not stop with our candidate, nor does it end on Election Day. It is a deeper movement, a paradigm shift, that calls for the raising of awareness of every Filipino, the enlightenment of our entire race, so that we may pull ourselves out of a culture seeped in negativity and divisiveness, and enjoy the benefits of higher consciousness;

- that we align with POSITIVITY rather than negativity. We focus on our country's innate wealth, rather than endemic poverty; we choose to be balanced, rather than extreme; we see opportunities in every problem; we are constructive and not destructive; we would rather defend than attack; we do not manipulate or persuade, but we educate; we do not struggle, but we strive; we see the long view rather than the immediate. We choose our words carefully, because through thought, act, deed and speech we convey our compassion, our sincerity and our tolerance, and our capacity to heal our wounded nation;

- that we are in this endeavor because we love our COUNTRY, and we are eager to find our true place in the world. Our sense of country is not limited to just our islands, but to the Filipinos found in every corner of the globe, for the influence of the Filipino is actually planetary. Our sense of "what is Filipino" goes beyond region, dialect and citizenship, and deeper into what we can do for our country, more than what it can do for us, what we can do for the world, than what the world can do for us;

- that the ENVIRONMENT is the most pressing underlying factor behind the exigency of our present cause; that we are the Green Team; that we support Life and never exploit Life; that we shall always consider the preservation of our natural resources, the cleanliness of our surroundings, and the love of Nature in every exercise of our campaign, for it is our positive mindset which is needed to save our planet from irreversible destruction;

- that GOD, or a Higher Power, inspires us in all these things; that the victory of a President is not just prescribed by the number of votes garnered or the efficiency of his campaign, but by the guiding hand of destiny and invisible forces we cannot fully explain; and so we fully align ourselves with this Power, which is embodied in Truth, in Justice, and in Peace, because this is what prevails, and we shall, absolutely, prevail.

SO HELP US GOD

The DFA, The LTO, The NBI and the Pinoy

At one point in your life, you will have to get a passport, a driver's license, or an NBI Clearance. These, they do not teach you in school. They do not teach you how to get a TIN number, an SSS number, how to file your ITR nor tell you the detailed steps of how to get a housing loan. These you learn on-the-job.. when you get to enroll in the endless, tragic subject called Real World Philippines 101.

I cannot help but feel frustrated whenever I am in an unreasonable, disorganized line to get some sort of government requirement. I cannot understand why they can't inject some sort of professionalism into these processes! They know a lot of people stand in line, why not device a number system like what some banks do. Being a "government" agency is not an excuse-- since Landbank, AFPSLAI, NSO and Pag-ibig practice these numbering systems. Or, if they can't improve the processes, why not provide for better waiting areas ? How come the NSO can do online processing and others can't?

Why not treat the Pinoy as a "Client" and not as Beggars waiting for alms. The sad thing is, we do not have choices. We need passports, DLs, and clearances.

Hey, we're paying for these services. Not only through taxes , but also through the various processing fees , computer fees, envelope fees and *gasp* "tissue fees" (Yep, people at NBI charge P5.00 for every "wet tissue" they give you to clean your thumbs after the thumb printing! haha!)

I do not mind getting the clearances. I just hope they fix these systems soon! Or is it their way of providing employment to the "fixers" ?

P.S. When I gave up getting my NBI clearance renewed in Sta Rosa, Laguna (where the line was 3 buildings long) I decided to try the NBI Kiosk in Park Square Makati. Aside from the brief kink in the morning (the guards of Ayala Center opened another door and let the "people from Ayala" cut the line and get their clearances first) -- it was really, really fast processing. Took me less than 10 minutes to get my new clearance! So.. congrats to the Kiosk people, there are still a lot of things to be improved, but you're getting there...

Grrr..

Starting last weekend, my Wednesday was all planned. To meet 2 long lost friends , catch up , then go somewhere. This was to take advantage of my no-work day and them being on leave.

Monday came and the 2 friends canceled. Then yesterday , I said 'yes' to meet another friend... who canceled again a few hours before our meeting time.

Huhu. A day wasted. Uwi na lang ako sa Laguna. I just need to cool off. I just think that now that I am semi-unemployed, every precious minute counts! Sigh, just when I feel that I am so ready to go out of my comfort zone the world just ain't cooperating!

Volunteering for GIBO!

I just want to start this post with my starstruck moment.

This "moment" came when I approached Gibo to sign Sam's photo.

Hanna (holding a Sam-Gibo photo from Zamboanga): Hi Sir, may I ask you to sign this photo for my husband?

Gibo: (look of recognition!) Oyy! Si utol ko ito ah! NAVSOG Class 67! Nasaan sya?

Hanna: (starstruck) Naku on assignment po, sa ______ po sir.

Gibo: Ah, sa NAVSOG _______ ! Paki-kamusta mo ako ha? Ikamusta mo ako!

awww. (I'm not posting the whole photo for security reasons...)

-----
Okay. On with the story.

A fun run / pep rally for presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro was held this morning at the Fort. "Takbo para kay GIBO, Takbo para sa Pagbabago" was co-organized by several GIBO volunteer groups. Registration was P100.00 - which also buys runners a shirt, a race bib, a volunteer pin, a bumper sticker, and a calendar ---> while supplies last! We were lucky that we registered earlier so we got the complete set.

I wanted to do more for the Green Team, so when they "Facebooked" a call for volunteers - I signified my intent to man the registration table. The catch was, I couldn't run :-( Oh well! My mom also forfeited running and decided to volunteer with me. The call time was at 4 AM at the NBC tent!

People came trickling in at around 5am , then there was a surge of registrants a few minutes before the race started! The crowd was large, but wasn't that large to merit "We're gonna win!!" and this just shows that we still have a long way to go!!! The spirit was very positive and people were very optimistic that we can still have Gibo converts. A lot of people were heard saying, "Win or lose, GIBO pa din!" ... "Ang boto ko kay GIBO ang testamento ng pagmamahal ko sa bansa"

It was a good experience, being there and seeing all the other people who believe in Gibo. The crowd was not rowdy and you can see that people came out of their own free will (I was able to talk to someone who came all the way from Vigan... an old man who said he went to 4 malls wanting to buy a Gibo shirt ... a balikbayan couple buying a lot of shirts to distribute for free... a group of teachers saying they were "mga Guro para kay Gibo) .

And take note, again, that this run was organized by volunteers, paid for by volunteers ... and Gibo was just invited (who gamely ran with the crowd.. even if he was being mobbed once in a while...)

I look forward to doing more stuff for the Green Team 2010! More photos at

Noey's visit

Sam's niece, Noey, visited us last weekend. (It's actuallly spelled Nhoey, ah but I don't like that.. hehe) We also accompanied her to get her PUP test permit. It was also an experience for me since I'm not 'exposed' to Manila streets! And since everyone was promdi, it was a lot of walking :-) Noey (who lived in small Penaranda, Nueva Ecija all her life) was probably culture-shocked when we brought her to Quiapo a day before the Nazarene procession! Dami tao!

Saturday morning was more relaxed, though. We went swimming at the Fort.5 clubhouse. Noey didn't talk much, but when she got home to N.E - her mom told us that her daughter really had fun! Having a guest over was a challenge for me because I had to... cook! I think I prepared a pretty passable pork nilaga ;-)

Memi Can Blog!

Yes, my mom blogs. I am her "uploader". I encouraged her to blog because of the potential of her hobbies, etc. to become a great content-generator and possibly, income-generator. Her blog will mostly tackle family life, stuff for the home, cooking, being a mom, being a wife, her sports, her crafts. Martha Stewart-ish. Truthfully, she has a better social life than yours truly. Since she's new at this, I'll be helping her a lot. Hah, hopefully I also get to play with her new "old" laptop which my very generous cousin from the US sent her.

We're only starting so please excuse the delays :-) My mom's blog http://www.memicanblog.blogspot.com/

Oly Retires.

Our trusty OLYMPUS - C770 , 4 megapixels, semi-pro digital camera quit on us late September 2009. It has served as well. We bought it late 2005 and it accompanied us through wedding planning, actual wedding, the honeymoon, countless out of towns, photo shoots and even traveled around the world with me in 2007. Ah, but all good things must come to an end.

According to the Olympus service center, the mode selection dial is broken. And getting it fixed will cost us a whopping P4,000.00 one time payment. So, we have decided to just finally retire Oly and scout for a brand new camera.
We've been swooning over Nikon D3000 or D5000... but can't afford it as of now. The decision was to get a low-end, basic camera so we can again document our lives. We were torn between the Sony DSC S930, Olympus FE 26 and the Canon Powershot A480.

After reading the reviews and canvasing prices, we settled for the Canon A480! Which, fortunately, had an ongoing promo: Camera + 1 year warranty + 2g SD card + batteries and battery charger + fish eye/ wide angle illusion lens + camera case + Canon camera/ accesories pouch! All for only P7,950 (on sale from its original price of P8,950!) which you can pay for 12 months at 0% interest!

"The Canon PowerShot A480 incorporates simple and intuitive operation with features such as Face Detection, Motion Detection and Red Eye Correction, making it easy to capture great shots. Featuring 10MP and a 3.3x optical zoom lens the Canon PowerShot A480 camera is capable of capturing images that will produce superb prints up to A3 size. The Canon PowerShot A480 has a slim body for easy portability and the solid design makes it easy to hold, perfect for first time users and families with children of all ages."

At P600 something a month, buying this is definitely more "sulit" than getting the Oly fixed. I will miss Oly's ultra zoom (10x optical zoom vs. our new 3.3 zoom!) and semi-SLR features. But beggars can't be choosers.

Sam has custody of this camera 'til we meet again.

Looking Forward to 2010

I never do New Year Resolutions since I am ever so afraid of not fulfilling them. I’ve always been a good starter of stuff but a lousy finisher (yes, yes, I admit). I have a lot of “unfinished business” so I will surely remain in this world if ever I suddenly you-know-what.

But maybe this year, I will try. With the drastic changes going on around me, I really should make adjustments.

(Note: Ah, last year I vowed that I will be religious with my vitamins and food supplements! And I was! The result? Not much allergies and no major sickness. Yay!)

So.. here are my “I Hopes” (not “To Dos”)

On Family and Home

~Work is never more important than Family. Up to now, I regret not going to Sam’s graduation ball because “I can’t get off work” Work can disappear in a snap. Family will stick with you. So be more loyal to your family because your company will never be loyal to you. This year, I hope to have more time with my family and give them more support rather than them supporting my dreams. Now that Sam is closer, I can visit him whenever he wants me to.. and that now that my dad is contemplating retirement, I really, really hope I can help out.

~ Try hard(er) to have a baby , hehe. ~ Update 5-7-2010 YUP, we are officially pregnant. As of May 2010 I am about 18 weeks buntis! Update 7-25-2010 30 weeks buntis and it's going to be a boy!!! :-) Starting this week we go to the OB every 2 weeks, palapit na ng palapit and we are so excited.

~ Stop nagging and be a good, obedient, military wife. (Maybe not totally… ) 7-25-2010 , I am so preoccupied with my shifting jobs and the baby to nag. Kung uuwi, uuwi, kung hindi, edi wag! Whose loss? We love you Popi Sam.

~ Plan better menus and grocery shopping days. Expand cooking abilities. ~ Update 5-7-2010, ugh. I am so bad at this 7-25-2010 I'm getting worse. Especially now that I am already employed fulltime. I lost my grocery shopping days :-(

On Health

~ Food Supplements! Glutathione and Vitamin C. I have found my perfect combination for an allergy free existence. Iron and Folic Acid for pre-natal nutrition!

~ Eat well, minimize pork and beef. Jog or swim at least twice a week. (Sheesh) My motivation? Sam’s getting buffer than ever (yep, nagiging “hot” na sya! Hahaha!) and I am getting plumper. I do not want to look dumpy beside a nice-looking husband. Plus. I’d like to be able to swim 400 meters, unassisted – because they say you need that to get a SCUBA license. 7-25-2010 - Still so bad at the health department, huhu.

On Finances, Business and Investments

~ Live within our means. I actually think we’re pretty good at this, and I hope we continue to do so. We are the type of people that don’t mind “degrading” our lifestyle. Eating where our current wallet status takes us … we don’t mind movie dates in obscure malls or anniversaries spent eating fast food. Ah, what I learn from my husband.

~ Easy on the credit card. 2009 was a big year for expenses because of my hospitalization and moving into Boni Heights. So, in 2010 my VISA should take a break. 7-25-2010 My unemployment was really hard on my credit card. I couldn't pay it in full. But I vow to pay it off before using it again (Sam actually hid it from me)

~ Quality not Quantity (while living within our means, of course!) Save up for what I want and not settle for anything less, because I end up just buying more stuff that I don’t like until I get what I really like. Like right now I will be saving up for my Hush Puppies shoes rather than buy cheap ones that are uncomfortable and will only last for a week

~ Grow my business. I have proved that Human Nature can really be something big. And that network marketing is really promising. I hope to grow my business this year and really, really have financial freedom! I need to be masipag!

~ Grow our AFP bank account and be a grown-up and open a BDO checking account.

Others

~ Actively campaign for and support GILBERT TEODORO for the 2010 presidential race! ~ Update 5-7-2010 Woohoo! We're on a roll. Praying for the win - only 3 days to go before d-day. 7-25-2010 :-( GIBO lost , Noynoy won. Oh well, with all the controversies right now, I actually feel relieved that the Teodoro family is at peace.

~ Go green not only for GIBO, but for the environment. Always remember to bring my reusable bags when shopping and strive to keep on cutting my carbon footprint.

~ Blog religiously. Do reviews, do the ghost blogs and try to earn more PayPal cash!

~ Be more prayerful and thankful for all the blessings coming our way!
